According to The Verge, Rabbit is abandoning its standalone hardware strategy to release OS3, an agentic operating system that runs locally across Windows, Mac, and Linux computers. Users no longer need the physical R1 device to access the company's automation software.
How does Rabbit OS3 work on desktop?
The system operates locally while executing tasks in the cloud. Each account supports up to five connected devices, allowing individuals to integrate their preferred AI models directly into their daily workflow. OS3 automatically selects the required apps, files, and models needed to complete a specific task.
Beyond desktop operating systems, users can interact with OS3 through a dedicated web interface or messaging apps like Telegram and iMessage. Meanwhile, founder Jesse Lyu confirmed that manufacturing of the R1 has stopped, with the company shifting focus toward a new hardware 'cyberdeck' arriving in the coming months.
What about data privacy?
Rabbit claims that OS3 will not store, copy, use, or sell user data. However, the company explicitly notes that chat histories and derived memories will remain stored on its servers. Additionally, any external AI providers linked to the platform will process data under their own respective privacy policies.
