According to reporting by The Verge, the new feature—called Slackforce Surfaces—allows team members to describe a desired visualization to Slackbot, which then generates a dynamic interface directly inside the channel.
Instead of running manual exports or waiting on data teams, employees can request customized displays using plain English prompts. The system pulls relevant context from message histories and integrated business applications, including Salesforce and Google Drive, provided the workspace has granted explicit data access permissions.
How does Slackforce Surfaces work in daily operations?
Users trigger the tool by sending a text prompt to Slackbot detailing the report or interface they need. Slackbot processes the query, searches connected data repositories, and renders an interactive element—such as an arcade-themed token usage tracker or a live support ticket queue—directly in the chat flow.
Once generated, these Surfaces can be pinned to specific channels or shared across teams. Colleagues can view updated figures, interact with the data directly within Slack, and leave contextual comments without opening external software.
“You’re not exporting your data to some other tool to make sense of it, you’re asking Slackbot to build the dashboard, the deck, the report right where the conversation already is,” stated Ryan Gavin, Slack’s chief marketing officer, in an email to The Verge.

This update addresses a long-standing point of friction in corporate communication: context switching. Previously, answering a mid-discussion data request required exporting CSV files, setting up pivot tables, or building dedicated views in external Business Intelligence (BI) platforms.
