FGTS Questions
How much does the employer deposit into FGTS?
8% of the monthly gross salary for CLT workers. Apprentices have a 2% rate. The deposit is made by the 7th of the following month into the linked Caixa Econômica Federal account.
How do I check my real FGTS balance?
Through the Caixa FGTS app (Android and iOS), Caixa Internet Banking or directly at branches. This calculator makes an estimate and does not access the real account.
When can I withdraw my FGTS?
In case of dismissal without cause, retirement, purchase of property through SFH, serious illness (cancer, HIV), serious illness of spouse or dependent, public calamity, or when the account has no deposits for 3 years.
What is the 40% FGTS fine?
When you are dismissed without just cause, the company pays a 40% fine on the total FGTS balance — money that goes to the worker, not to the fund. In a mutual termination agreement (art. 484-A of CLT), the fine is 20%.
Does a near-zero TR affect my FGTS?
Yes. Since 2017 the TR has been nearly zero, so the real FGTS return has been close to just 3% per year. Even so, FGTS protects the worker through the 40% termination fine.
