Google announced Gemini 4 Argon, skipping anticipated intermediate releases to introduce a model built for long-horizon workflows. According to Ars Technica, users cannot test the model yet, as Google is restricting initial access to security partners.
How does Gemini 4 Argon perform in real-world tasks?
Google DeepMind reports that internal teams are already using Argon for heavy engineering workloads. For instance, the model helped optimize quantum algorithms and migrated codebases, saving 300 TiB of memory across data centers. On the software engineering benchmark DeepSWE v1.1, the model hits a score of 77.9 percent.
Why is public access delayed?
Google is prioritizing defensive cybersecurity and rigorous safety evaluations before a broader rollout. Ars Technica notes that partner Wiz already utilized Argon to find critical hospital software vulnerabilities that previous models missed. Consequently, the model is debuting without cyber guardrails exclusively for vetted defenders.
What changes for enterprise users?
When the model eventually reaches paid API users and Google AI Ultra subscribers, it will support an industry-leading output limit of 1 million tokens. This expanded capacity allows the model to handle massive legal, financial, and coding tasks in a single trajectory without breaking context.
