OpenAI introduced its personal assistant agent, Dots, at DevDay 2026. Powered by GPT-6 Astra, Dots is designed for long-horizon work tasks such as managing to-do lists, planning team offsites, and testing software code.
How much does the Dots agent cost to use?
Unlike free rival tools in the market, The Verge reports that Dots is initially restricted to users on the $20/month Pro plan and up. While Meta offers free virtual machines for its Muse agent, OpenAI's high compute costs and burn rate require a paid subscription for these persistent background tasks.
What other changes came with the new plans?
Ben's Bites notes that OpenAI restructured its tiers with the Pro 500 plan, alongside Pro 100 and Pro 200, establishing usage limits as direct multipliers of the base Plus plan. Users also gain access to ChatGPT Space for shared workspaces and a new Ultrafast mode that runs GPT-6 Astra 8x faster while consuming 6x more usage credits.
Why was the next model release delayed?
Citing The Wall Street Journal, Ben's Bites highlighted that OpenAI scrapped the release of its next-generation AI model because it failed to meet internal safety standards. Sam Altman emphasized during the event that safety and trust remain primary constraints before shipping massive updates to billions of users.
