Streaming Apps Are Splitting in Two Over AI Music

Major streaming platforms are taking fundamentally opposite paths to handle the massive wave of synthetic tracks hitting their catalogs. According to TechCrunch, Deezer reported receiving over 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks daily, which now account for more than 50% of its daily uploads.
How are platforms handling AI tracks?
The Verge notes that YouTube Music is rolling out "Made with AI" labels to flag tracks where generative models played a significant role in composition and vocals. Creators can declare their uploads as Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI, or No Gen AI.
Unlike YouTube, which permits monetization for flagged content and experiments with its own generative tools like Dream Trust, Deezer and Tidal are pushing back. Deezer is launching a user toggle by the end of the year to filter out synthetic music entirely from feeds and search results, while Tidal cuts off royalty attribution for entirely AI-generated recordings.
How to check AI labels on YouTube Music
If you use YouTube Music, identifying synthetic tracks takes just a few taps on your mobile device.
- Open the YouTube Music app and play a track.
- Look for the disclosure label directly on the player page.
- Tap the label to open a simple menu revealing details about the AI's role in the creation.
Verdict: who should care about AI audio labels?
For music producers and marketing professionals, these platform updates change the distribution playbook. If you rely on AI generation for background tracks or commercial audio, expect increased scrutiny, mandatory disclosures on YouTube, and potential blockage on platforms prioritizing human-only feeds.
