Google is preparing to expand its Call for Me feature beyond business interactions. According to findings from an APK teardown by Android Authority and reported by The Verge, the AI assistant could soon handle brief personal communications, such as notifying family members about a delay.
How will automated personal calls work?
The upcoming feature introduces introductory screens indicating scenarios like telling a relative about arriving 15 minutes late. Because of these constraints, the tool acts more like a voice-driven text message rather than managing a full conversational phone call. This design targets quick check-ins for people who miss written notifications or still rely on landlines.
What changes in app control and permissions?
The code discoveries also reveal granular permission settings for individual apps. Users will be able to select which capabilities Gemini can access, including options to manage phone call permissions and potentially opt out of receiving automated calls. However, as the reports note, Google has not officially confirmed a public release date for this expansion.
