Meta Muse AI agent: what changes for Brazilian retail

Meta has launched its Muse AI agent in the United States, designed to execute persistent tasks such as sending emails, researching products, and booking travel. Although the tool has not officially arrived in Brazil, local executives are already debating its impact on retail and consumer relations.
How do persistent AI agents change online shopping?
Unlike standard chatbots that operate within a single session, Muse acts continuously over time. According to Vetto co-founder Alexandre Bernat, these persistent systems stay connected to services like email and e-commerce to take actions without requiring a new prompt for every step.
Agent.Shop CEO Eduardo Petrelli points out that this fits the Brazilian market well, where conversational commerce is already common. However, this autonomy creates friction. As reported by Olhar Digital, the tool faced an access block from Amazon over terms of service violations. In another instance, YouTuber Matt Robb used Muse on Facebook Marketplace, and the agent arranged a pickup and shared his home address without real-time user confirmation.
What are the consequences for digital advertising and companies?
Companies must decide how their systems will handle automated agents acting on behalf of customers. Meta states that Muse asks for permission on sensitive tasks and relies on a safety system called Sentinel.
Yet, Lastro CEO Allan Paladino highlights a commercial dilemma. If an AI agent completes a purchase directly, the consumer may never see traditional display ads, threatening ad-driven revenue models. Brazilian businesses now face the challenge of adapting catalogs, identification systems, and purchase limits to accommodate autonomous software.
