Google released Guided Vision within Gemini Live on compatible Android devices. The tool uses the phone's camera to deliver real-time audio descriptions of small text, objects, and surrounding environments.
How does Guided Vision work for reading small text?
Users share their camera feed inside Gemini Live to interact with dense documents or product labels. According to The Verge, you can ask follow-up questions, such as requesting the AI to read a specific expiration date from an item.
If the target object is outside the frame, the system provides audio cues to help align the camera correctly. The feature is also integrated into Google TalkBack and can be set up via an accessibility shortcut on Android 9 devices and newer.
What are the operational limitations of the tool?
Google explicitly warns that the feature must not be used for physical navigation, safe-travel guidance, or obstacle detection. It functions strictly as an information assistant and is not designed to replace mobility aids like a cane.
